The Annual Conference
Haitian health professionals face challenging conditions and complex cases with little access to peer support, information on best practices, and opportunities for continuing medical education (CME). To help fill this gap, EqualHealth holds its annual conference each year, connecting a diverse array of Haitian health practitioners and students to collaborate and learn.
In November 2015, we held our fifth annual conference on the topic of "Interdisciplinary Teams in Healthcare". We were thrilled to welcome our largest-ever audience of 200 Haitian health professionals and students for a day of presentations, workshops, and networking. On November 12, 2016 EqualHealth held its sixth annual conference on the topic of "Social Medicine in Practice". Social medicine is the practice of understanding the social context in which our patients live, and working to remediate the impact of grossly unequal social context on the life and death of the poor and marginalized. Social medicine involves improving the health of communities using a model to correct the inequities which cause poor health, a concept which is core to the values of EqualHealth, and which drew nearly 250 participants for our largest turnout yet.
