Mutual Aid

Helping communities, families, colleagues and partners who are affected by natural and human-caused disasters.

EqualHealth believes that global solidarity is a powerful force in addressing existing inequalities around the world.

The Mutual Aid program was designed to help communities, families, colleagues and partners who are affected by natural and human-caused disasters.

In 2021, when EqualHealth’s community witnessed the devastating consequences of the earthquake that ravaged the south of Haiti. In addition, we witnessed health institutions creating a barrier to access healthcare services, as well as situations of panic caused by insecurity and forced displacements.

As a result, we launched the Mutual Aid program to raise funds to provide immediate assistance of the partners we work with or communities in suffering.

Through this program, we provide grants of $4,000-$10,000 to local organizations that support communities in meeting their short-term material needs. We also provide technical and strategic assistance to aid them in implementing their activities and growing in the long term.

What is Mutual Aid?

Goals

Beneficiaries

Mutual aid is solidarity-based support where communities unite against a common struggle. They take on the responsibility of caring for each other, rather than leaving individuals to fend for themselves. Aid is offered in a spirit of solidarity and reciprocity, with a larger aim towards liberation and progress for all. (Source)

We do not believe that charity is the best approach to community empowerment. Rather, mutual aid offers a mark of global solidarity and love to build long term structural change—fighting neoliberalism and racial capitalism. We are committed to continuing the reinforcement of local communities through the education and training of the next generation of leaders.

  1. Provide strategic and financial support to close partner organizations and communities who are experiencing social suffering.

  2. Sensitize the international community on the importance of reparations for an equitable world.

  3. Redistribute resources to the most affected, vulnerable communities.

In 2021, we raised a total of $57,196 from individual donors through the Mutual Aid program.

From August 2021 to December 2022, we were able to support 6 local organizations in Haiti and Uganda through $4,000-$10,000 grants. We have granted a total of $41,926.92 to these communities.

We estimate that the Mutual Aid program has benefited more than 22,000 people (e.g., women, men, children and newborns) in Haiti and Uganda.
